CHANEL OPENS ITS NEW SPACE AT PRINTEMPS HAUSSMANN

On December 15 th 2016, CHANEL re-opens its boutique in Printemps Haussmann, unveiling an entirely refurbished three-floor space in the heart of this famous Parisian department store. As a teaser and call to visit this new spot, an exterior window display has been devoted entirely to the House. This winter CHANEL brings its three spaces at Printemps -fashion, accessories and watches and fine jewellery- together, transforming them into a stand-alone boutique of 160 m² spread over three floors connected by an interior staircase in Thassos marble. Architect Peter Marino took charge of this original creation with window displays on every level. Behind the lacquered façade, the floor alternates between marble, parquet and woven wool carpets, while the walls are a combination of lacquer and noble fabrics. As the main access to this new boutique, the ground floor is home to the Ready-to-Wear collections punctuated with a few accessories and leather goods. In tribute to the friendships that have always linked artists with CHANEL, the advertising poster for CHANEL N°5 that retook Andy Warhol’s famous work of 1985 answers a contemporary work by Peter Dayton based on the camellia that was so dear to Mademoiselle. This elegant décor is lit with two lamps in bronze, hammered metal, crystal and lava stone by the designers Delos & Umbiedos. On a floor below, known as the lower ground floor, the shoes, the iconic and seasonal handbags, the eyewear and the small leather goods naturally find their place within a décor of typically Parisian sophistication and timeless modernity. The first floor is dedicated to watches and fine jewellery. Ever adhering to the codes of CHANEL, this space is embellished by a work of art by Paola Pivi: swathes of pearl and golden bead fringes reminiscent of the many sautoir necklaces Gabrielle Chanel always wore layered over her jersey sweaters and tweed jackets. Once again CHANEL has shown innovation with this large space conceived to feel like a private shopping experience, far from the crowds.
