Il Gufo’s SS18 collection

Il Gufo, the high-end Italian childrenswear brand located in Dubai Mall, is excited to introduce their SS18 collection. The collection was revealed last month in Italy like a mirage, in a desert where nature and its inhabitants become the inspiration for fabrics, colours, prints and precious techniques.

Desert Dream

A spectacular sunset on the Ponte Vecchio. Waiting for the sun to set before the Il Gufo show starts among tents and sand dunes. Children appear from far away, forming a processional convoy to bring new life.

The Il Gufo SS18 collection is revealed like a mirage, in a desert where nature and its inhabitants become the inspiration for fabrics, colours, prints and precious techniques.

The shapes are soft and measured, embellished with three-dimensional details. Just as rain in the desert manages to make volatile nature bloom in an instant, creating appealing landscapes, so is the simplicity of floral and insect patterns reinvented through embroidery, appliqués and printed fabrics.

The materials move from the lightness of embroidered tulle to the more substantial feel of denim and basketweave.

For little girls, there is a big resurgence of lace which, thanks to a decisive use of colour, is even suitable for everyday exploration. Particularly with kidswear, this requires spontaneity and comfort.

In boyswear and baby clothes, the use of seersucker in all pastel shades of pale blue and green gives the typical timeless elegance of colonial uniforms.

The colours on offer are the representation of a journey: the path between skies and sand dunes, ending with the discovery of an oasis, its luxuriant nature and the neighbouring camp.

So pale blue and denim are combined with off-white, which for the girls is lit up with a gleam of gold. Deep blue, thanks to the stripes and checks that interweave in natural raffia designs, is mixed with the deepest greens and yellows, while turquoise combines with orange and fuchsia, evoking flowering cacti. In the world of linens, the powdery colours of burnished browns and navy are brightened with the bright red of evening fires.

Among the season’s key pieces for little girls is a white dress with classic pleats, brought to life with yellow flower and royal blue butterfly appliqués in a testament to tradition combined with refined materials and precious techniques. Modern details can be found in the ongoing work with denim, such as the dress with asymmetrical ruching.

For boys, shirts in denim, T-shirts and sweatshirts with palm tree prints evoke a more metropolitan flavour, in contrast with the seersucker polo shirt, for timeless chic.

The newborn dresses and romper suits with printed insects and flowering cacti are fun and quirky for baby girls.  Baby boys are refined and elegant in white linen outfits with touches of blue and brown.

The Silver Label capsule collection, with its pure whites and blue, is the expression of elegance and refinement.

For little girls, a full-length silk blend organza dress is embellished by weightless frills and a shagreen belt with Swarovski crystals. It is almost evanescent in its gracefulness. A more romantic organza cocktail dress, with white and blue stripes, highlighted by a belt with a gorgeous, carefully handmade white dahlia.

For little boys there is one single proposal, an essential blue suit, featuring a jacket with lapel collar and buttons, in silk shantung like the stripes on the sides of the trousers. A truly elegant suit.

The shoes continue the themes and details of the collection.

For little girls: embroidered insects, three-dimensional flowers and butterflies in appliqué leather and tulle add colour and bring many designs to life, from slip-ons to the most elegant sandals.

For little boys, the classic sneakers have practical strap fastenings hidden by bands of colour that add a street feel.

The must-haves are denim: slip-ons in regimental fabric for boys, and with frayed flower details for girls.

SPECIAL PROJECT – IL GUFO FOR OXFAM

“What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well” – Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince.

Water, a vital asset even in the Il Gufo desert, is the protagonist in the partnership that is bringing the brand and Oxfam Italia together to pledge real help in emergencies.

And it has become the symbol for a special initiative dedicated to the #20SECONDS project: 4 unisex T-shirts, with water-themed prints, the proceeds of which will help raise funds to prevent the spread of epidemics and therefore the exacerbation of emergency situations in the world caused by extreme weather events, conflicts and diseases.

Because taking 20 seconds to wash your hands really can save lives.
