MUTEK Brings First of it’s Kind, Non-Commercial Electronic Music Festival to Dubai this November

MUTEK, a Canadian-based festival that celebrates the very best of digital creativity and electronic music, is for the first time ever, coming to the Middle East. Dubai will host the iconic festival on 16-17 November and the experience promises to be unlike anything the city has seen or heard before.

Founded in Montreal, Canada in 2000, MUTEK is dedicated to developing digital creativity in sound, contemporary electronic music and audio-visual art. Through its visionary artists, the festival attracts diverse audiences, including the music heads, the tech enthusiasts, the art lovers and the merely curious world-wide with the opportunity to discover both the avant-garde and the mischievous. None have been disappointed.

With global platforms in North and South America, Europe and Asia, MUTEK is now bringing its unique brand of diverse cultural effervescence and innovation to Dubai.

Assembled by a group already intimately engaged with underground electronic music and familiar with the underground music scene worldwide – Co-Founder of Analog Room, Mehdi Ansari is mastermind behind bringing the concept to the Middle East, as Director on the project he sees Dubai as ripe and ready to host an event of this kind.

“As an organisation dedicated to the development of digital creativity in sound, music, and audio-visual art, MUTEK is providing a platform for the most original and visionary artists currently working in their fields. We work towards gathering the regional community to start complimenting each other to show the global community what this precious culture has to offer.” Ansari adds, “MUTEK’s diverse programing will present most elements of digital creativity and electronic music such as audio visuals, DiGi_Labs, master-classes and live performances, creating a full and unique experience.”

The first MUTEK festival in Dubai will be headlined by international heavyweights such as:

Jeff Mills, one of the most influential American names in techno. Lauded for his relentless pursuit of futurism, while advancing electronic music as conceptual art, Mills has defined a unique signature in his musical productions.

Dasha Rush from Russia, is an ambitious experimentalist and   has developed, with Stanislav Glasov, an audio-visual practice that has produced two mesmerizing works: Antarctic Takt and the latest

Dark Hearts of Space; a double screen, mesmerizing investigation on the metaphor and mystery of the phenomena of black holes. Her solo live performance also promises a master class in real-time, immersive, transportive techno.

Francesco Tristano, a Barcelona-based artist who is establishing himself as one of the most original and eclectic musicians of his generation.
Trained as a classical pianist and having recorded a number of classical albums, Francesco broke new ground with ‘Not for piano’ in 2007, containing his compositions as well as acclaimed piano versions of Detroit techno classics of ‘Strings of life’ and ‘The bells’. ‘Idiosynkrasia’. This is the one act not to miss.

Also appearing will be inspiring local and regional artists such as Abri & The Dreamfleet, who will be releasing their new album at the festival; and Siamak Amidi, Nasrawi and Magnetic Fossils (Shadi Megallaa and Karim Sultan) who are launching their brand new live project; with more exciting acts to be announced shortly.
