Dubai, UAE — As strong advocates of the role of industry collaborations in the future of the Middle Eastern fashion sector, ESMOD Dubai, the French Fashion Institute and luxury handbag label, LaLaQueen are pleased to officially announce their exciting design and education partnership, which has seen three talented students be selected to design a LaLaQueen capsule collection, to be sold in the brand’s flagship boutique in Beirut, and Polette Concept Store in City Walk Dubai.
ESMOD Dubai, the first and only French Fashion Institute in the Middle East, has cemented itself as a worldwide education leader in fashion design and patternmaking for ready-to-wear, couture and haute couture. LaLaQueen is a contemporary and sustainably conscious fashion label specialising in handcrafted leather handbags, focused on supporting global demand for protecting the Earth’s natural resources. The collaboration saw the two noteworthy Middle Eastern fashion entities come together to inspire and educate the talent of tomorrow, with designer Sally Sarieddine hosting one-on-one briefings with students to teach and inspire on the importance of promoting sustainability in the fashion industry.
Post-briefing, 15 Fashion Design students went on to submit their individual proposals for their reinterpretation of the design of LaLaQueen’s new Geometric Collection, which was originally inspired by the unity of geometric mineral crystals in nature and their interplay with fashion and design. A testament to the inspired work of ESMOD Dubai students with the support of Sally Sarieddine, the resulting Capsule Collection boasts diversity of style and interpretation, reinforcing the designer and founder’s belief in the important role of individual authenticity, self-expression and sustainability in fashion.
The three winning designs incorporate techniques such as screen printing, and manipulation of leather to form 3D structures. Importantly, each piece has been produced in Lebanon by LaLaQueen’s master craftsmen, with an exceptional regard for exquisite, consciously sourced local materials including high quality cow leather as the primary material. The capsule collection of backpacks and handbags adorned with a vintage metal clasp synonymous to LaLaQueen designs, further feature removable and adjustable leather straps.
Reflecting on the project, Sally Sarieddine commented: “LaLaQueen is about collaborations and spreading goodness, so It was an interesting experience to collaborate with creative people who are passionate and hardworking. Working with the ESMOD Dubai students gave me the opportunity to share what I know about sustainability and to inspire and seed the thought process of sustainability in their design process. I loved how each student re-interpreted the Geometric Collection in their own design process”.
The collection will be exclusively launched with a VIP event held this October at Polette Concept Store in City Walk Dubai on Al Mustaqbal St, a unique retail space launched by ESMOD Dubai to operate as an incubator platform for emerging designers and ESMOD Dubai graduates through the design, manufacturing, retailing, branding and marketing of their collections.
Denis Ravizza, CEO & co-Founder of ESMOD Dubai commented: “We are thrilled to have collaborated with LaLaQueen on the development of this capsule collection and are proud of the students who have submitted numerous interesting designs. ESMOD Dubai focuses primarily on garment design and production, yet such projects demonstrate the transversality and adaptability of our students through the skills acquired at school to adapt their creativity to accessories as well. We always support our aspiring designers through valuable industry collaboration to enhance their experience and throughout their education at ESMOD Dubai.”
