H.E. Noura Al Kaabi leads UAE’s delegation to the 6th St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum
A UAE delegation, led by H.E. Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, participated in the 6th St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum, held from 16 to 18 November 2017 at a number of museums and cultural centers around the city.
H.E. Noura Al Kaabi said the participation comes in support of the UAE’s commitment towards arts and culture as they are important factors in bringing societies and communities together. The participation also helps strengthen the country’s relations with international delegations taking part in the Forum, which supports the development of the arts sector, as well as initiatives and events at a local level, helping to enrich the UAE’s cultural scene.
She added that the UAE has established its presence as a global destination for arts and culture through organizing and hosting a number of international events and exhibitions that attract world renowned artists. By opening museums and cultural centers around the country, most recently the opening of Louvre Abu Dhabi, the UAE has affirmed its position as a leading arts and culture hub on the global map.
As part of the participation, H.E. Noura Al Kaabi toured the famous Hermitage State Museum, which was established in 1764 and includes over 3 million works of art, paintings, sculptures and world culture artefacts spreading over a total area of 233 thousand sq. meters.
H.E. Noura Al Kaabi also visited the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts hosted by its Director, where she witnessed a number of rare Arab and Islamic books and manuscripts. The Institute has a collection of more than 100 thousand items in more than 65 living and dead languages, including works by famous calligraphers and rare Islamic coins. It also includes a specialized library of books exceeding 800 thousand volumes, some of which shed light on Muslims living in Russian territory.
The St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum is an exclusive cultural event that gathers thousands of experts in the field of art and culture from all over the world. Among them are decision makers, business representatives, academic community leaders, directors, artists and musicians. Its programme includes a wide number of lectures, seminars, theatre shows and music concerts.
