First day of FBMA International Show Jumping Cup 2018 kicks off

Day one of the event started today and saw world-class competition and a fun filled atmosphere at the Equestrian Village at the world-renowned Al Forsan complex

1 March 2018, Abu Dhabi, UAE: The fifth edition of the  FBMA International Show Jumping Cup kicked off its first day of events today at the Al Forsan International Sports Resort. Following a day of intense competition and talent, winners of the first three categories have been announced.

A total of 147 show jumpers and 180 horses from 25 countries are taking part in six categories of show jumping events today, making the three-day competition the largest edition of the FBMA International Show Jumping Cup to date. All events are ‘Concours de Saut International’ (CSI), in line with a ranking system for international show jumping competitions.

Shaikha Latifa bint Ahmed Al Maktoum is competing in the first day in the CSIL2* categories, marking her first time to compete in this prestigious event.

The day began with a CSI Children’s class (CSICh) for riders aged 12 – 14 years-old, which saw 8 riders compete. The first category was won by Emirati rider Saif Awaida Mohammed Al Kirbi, riding 9 year old Chesnut S.S. with a time of 46.91. Second and third places in this category went to Eisa Al Owais, also from UAE on horses Code of Honour for second place and Avelon for third place. He achieved second place with a time of 47.12 and third place with a time of 47.51.

The second round – CSIJ class- with a total of 28 riders, saw first prize go to UAE national, Omar Abdalla Al Owais, on horse O’Connell with an outstanding time of 42.86 for round one and 25.74 for round two. Second place went to Ali Hamad Al Kirbi, also from the UAE on horse Baloucenta with a time of 48.67 for round one and 27.37 for round two, and third place to UAE national Sultan Majed Al Awani on horse Cassiana with a time of 43.54 for round one and 28.08 for round two. The second round saw a series of 125cm fences completed.

The third category round- the Ladies National Show, saw first prize won by Malika Cora Faber on 10 year old Cirrus, with a time of 46.57 for round one and 28.74 for round two from Al Hamra Equestrian Centre. Second place went to Cyndi Jamila Faber on 8 year old Fabio with a time of 45.96 for round one and 29.03 for round two, also from Al Hamra Equestrian Centre. Third place was awarded to Shreya Radia from Emirates Equestrian Centre on 10 year old D. Zarah R with a time of 44.00 for round one and 29.06 for round two.

The free event also saw families gather at the new Equestrian Village, which provides visitors with a fun equestrian-themed activity zone and includes games and competitions for children. Some of the fun-filled activities throughout the day included pony riding, competitive fun races, face painting and horse-shoe throwing. Meanwhile, families and friends enjoyed fabulous music and delicious food from some of the best food trucks in the capital.

Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the UAE General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, the Cup is organised by FBMA with platinum sponsors, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), Abu Dhabi Media (ADM), and Longines.
