28 June – 1 July 2018
Rome, Cinecittà Studios
Rome, June 2018 – The new edition of Altaroma toke place from 28 June to 1 July 2018, with a pre-opening on 27 June. In keeping with efforts to create institutional synergies aimed at integrating
valuable and significant assets for the city, this year Altaroma will take place in the Cinecittà Studios.
The prestigious studios will serve as a backdrop to the collections of Roman designers, to the presentations and fashion shows of young talents, fashion academies and schools and to the exhibitions of costumes, reminding participants of what made Roman creativity great in the past.
The new headquarters of this edition, a unique and international setting which hosted a lot of famous Italian and foreign directors, such as Federico Fellini, Francis Ford Coppola, Luchino Visconti and
Martin Scorsese, are the symbol of a golden age for Italy. Thanks to the collaboration with Istituto Luce – Cinecittà, the Cinecittà Studios will open their sets and theaters to the world of fashion, which has always had a special relationship with cinema. It is in the period of “Hollywood on the Tiber”, in the Fifties, that the young talents of the emerging Italian fashion gained international acclaim. This was made possible by the American divas who discovered the Roman ateliers: the Fontana sisters, Fernanda Gattinoni, Roberto Capucci were only some of the designers who would later become the great names of Roman fashion in the world. Today, in the same way, young talents have the opportunity to present their collections in Rome, in the Cinecittà Studios, and to show their work to the press and to national and international buyers and experts of the fashion industry.
As part of the event, a press conference will be held to present the collaboration established by the Archaeological Site of the Colosseum and Altaroma: the uniforms of the Site staff will be designed by the students of fashion academies.
A clear example of Altaroma’s commitment to searching for new talents and giving young creative the opportunity to display their work is the new image which was created for this eclectic edition by
Rosalba Cafforio, a fashion and beauty illustrator who had been selected during the January 2017 edition in the framework of the “Portfolio Review” initiative. The image that inspired her is taken
from Federico Fellini’s film “Juliet of the Spirits”, while the dress was designed by Giuseppe Di Morabito, finalist of “Who Is On Next? 2015”.
Thanks to the help of the Partners (the Chamber of Commerce of Rome, the Region of Lazio, the publicly owned company “Risorse per Roma” and the Metropolitan City) and to the key support of
the Italian Ministry of Economic Development and of ICE – the Agency for the internationalization and promotion of Italian businesses abroad – Altaroma continues to pursue its mission by
strengthening its support for emerging talents and the excellence of Italian production and by attracting more international attention to its initiatives.
The events calendar is divided into three sections: Fashion Hub, dedicated to the scouting, training and promotion of emerging talents; Atelier, which will include the fashion shows and presentations of couture and neo-couture houses, small ateliers, tailoring establishments and artisans; and In Town, dedicated to projects and businesses linked to fashion, which will seize this opportunity to promote themselves and establish useful business contacts in the city.
